I am the Walrus...

Cookookachu!
This walrus was wildly inappropriate, but luckily, my camera missed those shots so these are all kid-friendly.  I was more amused by the relationship between the seagull and the walrus...they seemed to be sympatico.

A New Addition

Thanks to impending late nights with a baby, and a wonderful Memorial Day sale, we picked up a new recliner for the living room.  Both Numbers Man and I have been wanting one for a while.  Truth be told, I was hoping for side-by-side recliners a la Chandler and Joey, but I've been told that's a bit tacky.  Shucks!  Anyway, we got this one and it's super comfy...even Ralphie thinks so!

Now all I need to do is spice it up with a throw blanket, a vignette of pictures on shelves or something behind it and an area rug...or something.  I've yet to put my finger on exactly what needs to happen, but I'm sure I'll figure it out.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and celebrating it up, remembering and honoring the brave men and women who have given their lives to afford us the many freedoms we enjoy in this great country.

Tuesday Truths

I'm a little invested in this season of American Idol. For those that don't watch, tonight was the final night of competition/voting...big night. I have seen every season except the Carrie season (whichever that was), and this is the first year my favorite has made it to the finale. Yes, I have a favorite and I vote. Like a teenager.

And tonight, as I have been for the entire season, I will be voting for Miss Jessica Sanchez.

Truth be told.

This Love I Have for You

If I go a million miles away
I write a letter each and every day
'Cause honey, nothin',
Nothin' can ever change this love
I have for you

Tuesday Truths

So, I've decided that Tuesdays will be a day for truth-telling on my blog; a day for revealing the lesser known, and sometimes embarassing facts about me.  The reason for this new tradition is simple: I love learning odd and obscure things about people I know (in real life or virtually).  It just helps paint a better picture of a person and oftentimes quakes and shakes the image of them I had in my mind.

For my first TRUTH, my first big, reveal, I will share this stunning, chic, and completely over-the-top picture of Audrey Hepburn from Charade with you and say only this:

In high school I tried to model many an outfit after this daringly stylish woman, including the one here.  I even found a faux-fur pullover like this one with a wide mock-turtleneck and some silk shantung capris.  Mind you I wore this around 16 years of age in sunny southern California and probably looked utterly ridiculous.  I felt like a million bucks, I'm sure.

A Very Blessed Mother's Day

Well, this is my first mother's day as not only a daughter of a wonderful mom, but a a mother (almost!) as well. And I must say, it was a really great one! :). I spent most of the day with my fabulous mother who, though there are no pictures to prove me truthful, looked svelte and (dare I say it) CHIC, in a teal, draping boat neck blouse and black slacks.

First on our agenda, we ate at Evolution Fresh, the new healthful Starbuck's venture. The food and juice were tasty as can be. My quinoa bowl with mild Harissa spoke to my ultra hippy palate, but the chocolate coconut mousse really stole the show. We seriously debated buying a handful to cart home with us, but our better judgement won out. Next time. Next time, my friend.

Then we walked across the street to a cute little mommy-to-be store called Destination Maternity that was basically a Pea in the Pod and Motherhood combined into one. Great concept! I found way too many wonderful pieces that will work not only throughout the pregnancy, but beyond! Hallelujah! We also learned just what kind of clothes do not work on me. There were moments where I felt like I looked like I ought to be picked up by MTV to star in an episode of 16 and Pregnant. No bueno.

A final stop off to Starbucks on the way home (we may be addicted) for some iced lattes (green tea for mom, chai for me) and a bit of conversation, was a relaxing way to end our outing. Truth be told we were both a bit tired from all that shopping. :)

When we got back to my place we took Ralphie for a little walk, enjoying the sunshine, the blooming flowers, and the crazy birds overhead (a bald eagle flew in and there was a bit of a territorial scuffled with the indigenous inhabitants.

After mom and dad headed home, Number's Man surprised me with a huge, pink (SQUEE!) basked filled with potted plants and flowers! I have never seen anything quite like it and I swear he's a mind reader because I was thinking this pat week about picking up some plants to place outside in pots. Score!

I want to say "Thank you!" to my wonderful husband, my mom, my mother-in-law for being there for me. I hope I am always there for you as well.
xoxo

Ralphie Has Some News to Share...

I'm pregnant! Numbers Man and I are expecting our first baby in November and we couldn't be happier!!! Being a mother has been a long-time wish of mine and I feel truly blessed that it is now a dream made real. So far, I do not have much to report other than that the baby has a strong heartbeat and we are both healthy. I can't wait to find out if the little one is a boy or a girl so we can start preparing. I promise pictures of the nursery when that starts coming together. For now, I am adjusting to life in clothes that include spandex as my body shifts to make room for our dear one.

I hope all the mothers and mothers to be have a wonderful Mother's Day weekend!

Adorbs!

Lands End is now making needlepoint iPad covers. Sign me up! Seriously, how cute is this baby?

Balboa Park in Sepia

While we were in San Diego, I took about a zillion pictures at Balboa Park and here are a few that made their way into a sepia tint.  The stunning backdrop of a perfect sky of blue contrasted with the washed out terra cotta hued buildings and the bolts of green palm fronds, so mostly I chose ot keep the true and natural colors of the original photograph for these shots.  However, I think sepia reduces the elements of each shot to their basic forms, which stand alone, without any color at all.

In other news, I will be making an announcement here on Friday, so keep your eyes peeled!
