Knit Together in the Leaves

"You'll be driving along depressed when suddenly
a cloud will move and the sun will muscle through
and ignite the hills. It may not last. Probably
won't last. But for a moment the whole world
comes to. Wakes up. Proves it lives. It lives—
red, yellow, orange, brown, russet, ocher, vermilion,
gold. Flame and rust. Flame and rust, the permutations
of burning. You're on fire. Your eyes are on fire."

Feeling Small

It's a fine thing to feel small and humbled before the Lord.

1 Chronicles 29:12
Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.

Orange You Glad it's Friday?

I had a jam-packed week and am thoroughly thankful that it's Friday evening and I have nothing to do this weekend but rest and spend time with Numbers Man, Darling Dog, and Crazy Cat.  Attempts are being made to construct a partition in my mind whose effect is meant circumlocate my desires into a little brain bin so they do not manifest into unwise purchases.  I made reference in another blog post about my love of lists, however these lists often lead to actually "doing" things because of the visual reminder that a list inevitably becomes, which is good if your list is a list of deeds.  However, my lists are usually a lists of wants, desires, and pretty baubles I could (and should learn to) live without.

I see challenge and hurdles and the possibility for the strain of guilt to yoke my heart.  I hope my darlingest friend who is partnering with me on trying for more meaningful money management does not run and hide if I whine to her about the uber cuteness of a ridiculous pair of shoes or the neccessity of a foreign fashion magazine.  Do you hear me darlingest friend?  Don't run.  Don't hide.  I need help.  You can be the po-po to my financial despot.  Lucky girl!

Lady Rose of A Queen In Her Castle tagged me in a little blog I hope you all enjoy! :)

1. Why Do You Blog?

Two-fold...I enjoy reading blogs to gain insight into other peoples lives and thoughts so partly it is in hopes that a peek into how I see things offers the same kind of amusement, peace, encouragement, etc. to others.  It's all hopeful.  Secondly, I dig words and pictures and things that are brief (short attention span) and a blog involves these three things.  Canya dig it?
2. Do You Believe In Global Warming?

Yes and no.  I believe that the world is warmer now than it was some time ago.  You can't argue with the math (or can you), but I believe it's a-okay.  I think God has a plan and am not entirely convinced this global warming thing is solely of our own making or leading to our descruction (ad nauseum).  Before you think me insensitive, narrominded, ignorant and thoroughly un-P.C., I also believe we Western nations of people ought to be better stewards of our environment

3. Do You Think Health Food People Are Any Healthier Than Other People?
By and large, yes.  I do believe this.  But what you eat is only one component of health in my opinion.  According to the preamble to the WHO: "Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."  To add to that...spiritual health is of utmost importance.

4. Do You Believe In The Rapture? If Yes, Do You Think It Will Come Soon?

Yes, I believe what the Bible says...
1 Thessalonians 4: 14-17
"For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.  For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.  For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. "

5. Do You Watch TV Preachers?

Some, sometimes.  I really more enjoy radio sermons though.  Particularly Alastair Begg - Truth for Life and Thru the Bible with J Vernon McGee.

6. Do You Go For Regular Check-Ups At The Doctor Or Dentist?

Yes.  I'm afraid I don't have any strong opinions about this one.
7. Do You Like To Talk To Friends On The Telephone Or Would You Rather Write An Email?

I like both!  Communication is a good thing.   There are some days when the last thing I want to do is write *another* email so the phone is where it's at.  Other days, all I want to do is clickety clack and think through things before "saying" them.

Rice is Nice on a Moonlight Night

Because my mother said she was once lured into saying, "Rice is nice on a moonlight night" with her long since vanished Southern drawl.  Rice remains, to me, like the moonlight at dawn, an apparition of things which once were.

The Wind and the Moon

Said the Wind to the Moon, "I will blow you out;

You stare
In the air
Like a ghost in a chair,
Always looking what I am about —
I hate to be watched; I'll blow you out."

The Wind blew hard, and out went the Moon.
So, deep
On a heap
Of clouds to sleep,
Down lay the Wind, and slumbered soon,
Muttering low, "I've done for that Moon."

He turned in his bed; she was there again!
On high
In the sky,
With her one ghost eye,
The Moon shone white and alive and plain.
Said the Wind, "I will blow you out again."
The Wind blew hard, and the Moon grew dim.
"With my sledge,
And my wedge,
I have knocked off her edge,
If only I blow right fierce and grim,
The creature will soon be dimmer than dim."

He blew and he blew, and she thinned to a thread.
"One puff
More's enough
To blow her to snuff!
One good puff more where the last was bred,
And glimmer, glimmer, glum will go the thread."

He blew a great blast, and the thread was gone.
In the air
Was a moonbeam bare;
Far off and harmless the shy stars shone —
Sure and certain the Moon was gone!

The Wind he took to his revels once more;
On down,
In town,
Like a merry—mad clown,
He leaped and halloed with whistle and roar —
"What's that?" The glimmering thread once more!

He flew in a rage — he danced and blew;
But in vain
Was the pain
Of his bursting brain;
For still the broader the Moon—scrap grew,
The broader he swelled his big cheeks and blew.

Slowly she grew — till she filled the night,
And shone
On her throne
In the sky alone,
A matchless, wonderful silvery light,
Radiant and lovely, the queen of the night.
Said the Wind: "What a marvel of power am I!
With my breath,
Good faith!
I blew her to death —
First blew her away right out of the sky —
Then blew her in; what strength have I!
But the Moon she knew nothing about the affair;
For high
In the sky,
With her one white eye,
Motionless, miles above the air,
She had never heard the great Wind blare.

Psalm 71: 1-3

"In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion.  Deliver me in thy righteousness, and cause me to escape: incline thine ear unto me, and save me. Be thou my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort: thou hast given commandment to save me; for thou art my rock and my fortress."

It is only God who can deliver us from our confusion for he is the way, the truth, and the light.

Where do you remind yourself?

Proverbs 7: 1-3
"My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.  Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.  Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart."

A mug
A framed verse at my desk

Rolling around in my head, which lays upon my hands at night.

A Most Touching Film

One of my favorite movies is one that most people have not heard of and more people should watch: The Enchanted Cottage.  The synopsis from is below:

A homely maid and a scarred ex-GI meet at the cottage where she works and where he was to spend his honeymoon prior to his accident. The two develop a bond and agree to marry, more out of loneliness than love. The romantic spirit of the cottage, however, overtakes them. They soon begin to look beautiful to each other, but no one else.

I will leave you with a beautiful review of the film here.

I hope everyone had a wonderful first day of October!
